Privacy Policy for qURL File Upload for Gmail
Effective Date: May 28, 2026
qURL File Upload for Gmail is a browser extension that helps users upload PDF or image files to a qURL server while composing email in Gmail, and insert the returned file portal links into the active Gmail draft. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension processes, how that information is used, and how it is handled.
1. Information We Process
When you use the extension, it may process the following information:
- PDF or image files that you explicitly choose to upload
- File-related information such as file name, file type, and file size
- Portal links, resource identifiers, and expiration data returned by the qURL server
- A custom qURL server address configured by you in the extension
2. How We Use This Information
This information is used only to:
- Upload the files you selected to the designated qURL server
- Receive the returned file access URL from the qURL server
- Insert the returned file access URL into the active Gmail draft
- Provide a fallback copy action if automatic insertion into the Gmail draft fails
- Save your qURL server configuration for future use
3. File Storage Location
Files selected by the user are uploaded to the qURL server used by the extension. When the default LayerV-operated qURL server is used (see Section 5), files are stored on LayerV cloud infrastructure (currently Amazon Web Services) in the United States. Files are encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest using AWS-managed encryption; LayerV does not have routine operational access to file contents in the ordinary course of operating the service. Stored files are purged on an operational cadence determined by LayerV, and the specific retention period is operational and may change without notice; the extension is not intended for long-term or archival storage of any file.
The extension inserts the returned file access URL into the Gmail draft and does not rely on Gmail attachment storage for the shared file itself.
Gmail and recipient mail system retention of the access URL. Although the file content is not stored in Gmail, the access URL inserted into your draft is stored in Gmail and any recipient mail system indefinitely, and is subject to those systems' retention, access, search, archival, and forwarding policies. Anyone with access to the email — including corporate mail-system administrators, Google Vault, DLP or journaling systems, and forwarded recipients — has the access URL until it expires or is revoked. You are responsible for assessing whether this exposure profile is appropriate for the content you share, and for revoking portal links promptly if exposure occurs.
4. What We Do Not Do
As of the Effective Date above, the extension does not:
- Transmit Gmail message content, subject lines, contacts, email headers, or any other email data to any LayerV server or third party. The extension reads only the file you explicitly choose to upload and writes only the returned access URL into the active Gmail draft.
- Use the Gmail API or any other Google API that grants access to user data
- Sell, share, rent, or otherwise disclose your personal information, uploaded file contents, or any other data processed by the extension for monetary or other valuable consideration
- Use data for advertising, cross-site tracking, or personalized advertising of any kind
- Use uploaded files for analytics unrelated to the extension's core functionality
- Use uploaded files or any information processed by the extension to train, fine tune, or evaluate any artificial intelligence or machine learning model
If a future version of the extension changes any of the foregoing, this Privacy Policy will be updated before that version is published, with a revised Effective Date.
5. Data Transmission and qURL Server
When you upload a file, the selected file is sent to one of the following:
- The custom qURL server address configured by you in the extension; or
- The built-in default qURL server operated by LayerV, Inc. (currently reachable at api.layerv.ai), used by the extension when no custom address is configured.
You are responsible for ensuring that the qURL server you use is appropriate for your organization's security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
Custom server disclaimer. When you configure a custom qURL server, LayerV has no control over, access to, or responsibility for data sent to or stored by that server, and the representations in this Privacy Policy and the LayerV Privacy Policy describing LayerV's handling of data do not apply to data processed by that server. Your relationship with the operator of any custom qURL server is governed by that operator's own terms and privacy practices.
6. Local Storage
The extension uses browser local storage to save your custom qURL server address so it can be reused the next time you open the extension. No file content is stored in browser local storage.
7. Third-Party Services
The extension relies on Gmail and a qURL server to perform its core functionality. Your use of the extension is also subject to the applicable terms and privacy policies of Google and any qURL server or service provider you use.
8. Compliance with Google Policies
As of the Effective Date above, the extension does not access user data through Google APIs. If a future version of the extension changes this behavior, this Privacy Policy will be updated before that version is published, with a revised Effective Date. To the extent any information accessed through Google services is processed by the extension, LayerV's use of that information complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside, you may have rights regarding personal information under applicable law, including the General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and other state privacy laws. Use of the qURL service through this extension is also subject to the LayerV Terms of Service and the LayerV Privacy Policy. In the event of any conflict between this extension Privacy Policy and the LayerV Privacy Policy with respect to data processed by the extension, this Privacy Policy controls for matters specific to the extension; the LayerV Privacy Policy controls for all other LayerV services.
Where the extension uses or interacts with other LayerV services (for example, when uploading a file to the LayerV-operated qURL server), the LayerV Privacy Policy governs LayerV's processing of data on those services in addition to this Privacy Policy.
For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this Privacy Policy displaces or modifies the limitation of liability, indemnification, dispute resolution and binding arbitration, class-action waiver, or governing-law provisions of the LayerV Terms of Service, which apply in full to your use of the extension.
12. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, the updated policy will be published at the same public URL with a revised effective date.
